Asking questions

How to phrase a question so NeelAI answers it the first time.

Contents
  1. 1Name the measure and the period
  2. 2Follow-ups keep the previous result
  3. 3When the answer looks wrong

NeelAI reads your question, picks the tables it needs, works out a query, runs it against your own HANA database and explains the result. You do not need to know table names. You do need to be specific about which number you want and over what period.

1Name the measure and the period

Most disappointing answers come from a question that could reasonably mean two things. Compare:

How are sales? What were gross sales by month for FY 2025-26?Names the measure, the grain and the period.
Who are my top customers?Top 10 customers by outstanding amount as of today“Top” by revenue and “top” by outstanding are different lists.
Show me stockStock valuation by item group for the Bhiwandi warehouseQuantity or value, and for which warehouse.

2Follow-ups keep the previous result

After an answer you can ask a follow-up and NeelAI will work from the result you are looking at rather than starting again. “Now show me the top 10” after an outstanding-amount chart keeps outstanding amount as the measure. To start fresh, pick a question from Try Asking, or say what the new measure is.

Fiscal year, not calendar year. “This year” means the Indian fiscal year — 1 April to 31 March — unless you say otherwise.

3When the answer looks wrong

Open the working under the answer. It shows how the question was read — which measure, which documents, which period — and the rows behind the figure, which is usually enough to see whether it was understood the way you meant it.

If the reading is right but the number is not what you expected, the difference is usually a definition — gross versus net of credit notes, or posting date versus document date. Say which one you want and ask again.
